West Leeds Youth Inclusion Project is part of the national Youth Inclusion Programme funded by the Youth Justice Board. One of around 70 projects nationally, the programme targets 13-16 year olds and specific areas with high levels of social exclusion, crime and school exclusion/non-attendance. Young people are referred by agencies such as the police, social services, education, youth offending team etc. The project then attempts to engage the young people – on a voluntary basis – in programmes of activities, group and individual support work, as part of the overall aims of reducing offending and school exclusion.
Senior YIP also delivers an alternative to school programme known as the educational support programme and works very closely with local high schools. We also deliver accredited courses that support young people in achieving their full potential.
Junior Youth Inclusion Project, funded by Leeds Children’s Fund aims to engage children and young people aged 8 to. The project runs a weekly after school drop in (Youth Club) and football and other sports training sessions, as well as working intensively with individuals who have been identified as at risk.
The Education Support Programme, which is an alternative curriculum provision for high school pupils not engaging in mainstream education for a variety of reasons. The programme provides OCN accredited courses and aims to re-integrate young people into mainstream education or further education and training.
