BACKGROUND
In 1986 the old school, adjacent to the parish church at Helsington, near Kendal, Cumbria, was totally renovated for use as a residential centre and before the centre was opened the charity that did the work decided to rename the building. According to local history the Manor of Helsington stood in Old Westmorland and in 1341 it was owned by William de Thweng and was known as 'Lumley Fee'. On the 8th of August 1987 the residential centre was officially opened as 'Lumley Fee'.
