What does our project do?
The projects main focus is working with vulnerable children and young people providing them with positive play experiences. These play experiences such as graffiti art, circus skills and football training help children to grow in confidence and build skills they can us throughout adult life.

Where do we work?
We currently offer a number of different services across West Leeds. We have a ‘Time Out’ project specifically targeted at children affected by addiction in their lives. We offer mobile and Outreach play sessions in local communities. We run play sessions with children housed in temporary accommodation such as Hillside Reception Centre. We offer free holiday play sessions for children who may not normally access provision. In addition to this, we run an Out of School Club based at Bramley St Peters Primary School. This club offers breakfast, term time and holiday play schemes for working parents.

Children and Young People’s Involvement
We model our service delivery around the needs of children and young people. In summer 2006 we carried out a research activity talking to over 250 children and young people across West Leeds about the play needs in their community. This feedback from local children and young people will be used to shape our summer programme 2007 and future services we provide.

Community Events and Promotional Work
We have promoted our work in various significant events such as West Leeds Festival, National Play Day and our annual community pantomime. In these events just over 2,000 children bounced on our bouncy castle, used 100 bottles of paint, 25 tubs of modeling clay, 5 water slides and endless recycled paper!!

Our Valued Volunteers
This year we have also obtained funding to enable of one of the team to become a fully qualified NVQ Playwork Assessor. This enables the team to train towards higher NVQ qualification and share skills and good practice with volunteers.

This year we have been successful gaining a grant of £84,000 from BBC Children in Need. This grant will allow use to provide play provision specifically for children and young people affected by substance misuse in their family.

Finally
we had been awarded a grant from the Big Lottery as part of the city wide play portfolio of £204k to provide open access play sessions across West Leeds. This is an exciting new piece of work will involve offering a mobile provision in neighbourhoods where no current provision exists.
