In February 2024, Kate met up with Ben who has now been living in his own property for over a year. In the video below, Ben shares his story of being homeless to finding support and getting settled into his home.
Ben had been living in the woods, derelict houses and his mum’s shed for years when he first met Kate, his Navigator. Kate worked with Ben to build trust and rapport to not only support him to get accommodated but also become mentally and financially stable.
Housing Navigators work across Leeds with people that have recently been accommodated after being homeless and sleeping rough. All of the people supported have multiple challenges that may include poor mental health, addiction issues or a history of offending behaviour. The Team provides intensive, proactive support to help them move in, establish and sustain their tenancy and build a home. They work in partnership with a range of services across the city in a trauma-informed way, thinking creatively to reduce any barriers that people face to help them on their recovery.
