The Being You Leeds Men's Song Writing Group have written and recorded a new song 'Here I'm Staying' to share a powerful message of hope and resilience in support of the Baton of Hope 2025 tour which came to Leeds on World Suicide Prevention Day , 10 September 2025.
The song was written collaboratively at the Being You Leeds Group after beginning with a set of lyrics created by Terry Cannings which documented his experience of bereavement when his wife passed away in 2023.
Listen to 'Here I'm Staying' on Bandcamp.
The song’s powerful message matched with the group's intention to write a song for the Baton of Hope tour. The final version of ‘Here I’m Staying’ came together with additional lyrics contributed by the whole group.
The group performed a live version of the song at the welcome event for the Leeds leg of the Baton of Hope UK tour which took place at Barca's Manor House building in Bramley, Leeds.
The Baton of Hope is a powerful symbol that’s travelling across the UK to raise awareness about suicide prevention. It brings communities together to remember the lives sadly lost to suicide, while promoting a message of hope, reducing stigma and promoting help-seeking. In Leeds, the baton was carried across the city by 84 Baton Bearers, who are people who have been affected by or bereaved by suicide. It started it’s journey at Barca-Leeds and travelled through the city to it's end point at The Old Fire Station in East Leeds.
