Throughout the summer holidays, our Children and Young Persons team delivered activities and events that engaged over 750 children and young people from across West Leeds. From community play sessions in local green spaces to our 18th annual Playday event, our team of Youth Workers organised, led and supported a variety of activities to bring our local communities together.
Our Healthy Holidays scheme ran for 4 weeks throughout summer delivering a wide range of activities including swimming, trips to York Maze and Bridlington, horse riding and lots of community craft sessions. We worked with 170 individual young people and delivered 463 healthy meals to families who receive free school meals.
We had a wonderful day on 6 August at Hunters Greave Scout Campsite celebrating National Playday with over 600 children, young people and their families. Activities included a silent disco, crafts, a gaming bus, inflatables, archery and toasting marshmallows on the fire pit! We want to thank our wide range of partners who supported the event by holding information stalls to promote local services to young people and families as well as bringing their own activities along. We want to thank you team of Young Volunteers who provided excellent planning, organisation and support throughout the event.
When asked about the event, one parent said: "Thank you for your efforts to put this up. Thank you to all the very friendly staff who hosted this. The children had a fun day and it will surely be a core memory for them."
We delivered Basketball and Cricket Camps in partnership with local organisations Oblong, Leeds Youth Service, Lets Do More, and Yorkshire Cricket Foundation. The sessions were very successful and oversubscribed by young people. View photos from the camps on Oblong's Instagram page.
