Connect to Grow supported parents and adults who self-identify as having experienced a childhood trauma.

Who is the service for?

The Connect to Grow service closed in June 2025 after successfully delivering sessions that supported adults who self-identify as having experienced a childhood trauma. Childhood trauma is defined as exposure to multiple traumatic events and/or long-term exposure to traumatic events. The effects of this vary from person to person but can lead to isolation, feelings of shame and an inability to respond to their emotions in a way that feels positive / sustainable.

The project provided a safe space where people could come together to:

  • Increase social contact
  • Provide a sense of belonging and being together with others who have similar experiences
  • Empower individuals to be able to understand and respond to their experiences.
  • Provide individuals with tools and techniques to make changes and develop healthier ways of managing mental wellbeing and relationships.

Connect to Grow delivered a 6 week programme supporting people to find out about trauma and how it can impact their daily life, get tools and learn ways to lower the negative impact, and build confidence.

"When I have attended and I arrive a bit down, I leave in a better mood, feeling lighter after off loading. My mood always changes to happier as the people and staff are great, and good listeners and they never once judged me."
