Rosie* was supported by the TFS Wellbeing Service, which provides one to one support and access to opportunities for children and young people impacted by parental drug and alcohol use. This story shares Rosie's journey.
Rosie struggled with low self-esteem and anxiety, school attendance was low due to her mental health and friendships. Her relationship with her mum was close but they often had arguments which upset her.
The Barca TFS Worker provided one to one support which focused on managing her anxiety and improving her confidence and self-esteem. We also carried out some nurture sessions with a couple of class friends to improve her social network within school. We worked closely with school to put in place some reasonable adjustments to make Rosie feel less anxious within class.
During our support school reported an improvement with her attendance going from 67% to 90%. The Worker also carried out some family sessions with Rosie and mum within the home around healthy relationships, emotional regulation, managing conflict and improving their mother/daughter relationship which they both reported helped a lot.
"Thanks to Barca support Rosie is now a lot happier in school and enjoys going which I am thrilled about. Things are a lot calmer at home as I feel a lot less stressed and able to manage Rosie’s behaviour and outbursts a lot better due to the strategies shown by [Barca Worker]."
