A specialist service that delivered mentoring and support interventions for young people who are engaging in community anti-social behaviour or other risky behaviours.

Who is the service for?

The Discover Programme supported young people aged 8 to 16, in the Seacroft and Manston areas of Leeds, to address and reduce the risk factors in their lives enabling them to lead healthier happier lives. The service closed in 2025 and worked closely with individuals most in need to re-engage them with their peers, school and family by using the following interventions:

  • one-to-one mentoring work,
  • advocacy in the school,
  • emotion coaching,
  • detached youth work, and
  • support to access other community youth work.

"I can manage my anger better and know how to control it better."

- Young person

97% of the young people supported by the programme made significant progress in at least two of the following outcome areas:

  • Relationships
  • Feelings and behaviours
  • Being safe
