The Better Together team enables local community members to reach their full potential and improve their health and wellbeing.

Who is the service for?

Adults living in the 20% most disadvantaged areas of West Leeds, which includes:

  • Armley
  • Bramley
  • Burley
  • Hyde Park
  • Little London
  • New Wortley
  • Woodhouse
  • Kirkstall
  • Farnley
  • Hawksworth

The team listen and work collaboratively with local people to develop and support free / low-cost health and wellbeing groups open to all adults in West Leeds. Current activities include:

  • West Leeds Recipe Station - Recipe Station was set up by the Better Together team at Barca-Leeds in 2019. After being inspired by home cooking boxes the team wanted to facilitate healthy cooking at home but on a budget! Each Recipe Station hands out free recipe bags with a recipe card and ingredients to cook a healthy meal where the ingredients cost in the region of £2 to recreate.
  • SEND Peer Support Group for parents and carers
  • Pay as you feel Yoga sessions
  • Creative activities including sewing, crafts and mindful colouring
  • English Conversation Cafe - a friendly and welcoming space to practice your English conversation, socialise and meet friends.

The team also attend community events and venues promoting local health and wellbeing campaigns and services, and connecting with community members.

Over a 12 month period, the Better Together team delivered 299 health and wellbeing activity groups across West Leeds.

"I now have a file that I keep all my healthy recipes in, its nice to try different meals than the ones I usually cook, it has been and continues to be invaluable to me."
